Getting Services

We are happy to help you get the services and supports you need. Check the calendar (link) for a Waiver Assistance workshop – we’d be happy to help you figure out what you’re eligible for and how to apply. You are also welcome to call or e-mail with questions, or for help brainstorming solutions to your own issues – with or without public funding!

There are many different state programs out there. A short list includes:

Waiver: Each State can request a “Waiver” from the Federal policy that Medicaid will only pay for “facility based” services. The Waiver also stipulates the percentage of money the Federal government puts toward the program (currently about 80%) and the amount the State must come up with for a match. New Mexico has several “home and community based” Waiver programs, including the Developmental Disabilities Medicaid Waiver, the Medically Fragile Medicaid Waiver, the HIV/Aides Medicaid Waiver, and the Disabled and Elderly Medicaid Waiver. The DD Waiver is for people with developmental disabilities, as defined by the Federal government.
State General Funds: State General Funds can pay for residential, vocational , and behavioral services for people on the waiting list who meet the State definition of developmental disability- they contract with four local service providers (PMS Roundtree for Early Intervention, PMS Shield for adult Vocational, Mentor for adult Residential, and Mosaic for adult residential and vocational).
EPSDT & ATCM: There are also two Medicaid programs called EPSDT (Early Periodic Screening and Diagnostic Testing, ages 4 - 21) and ATCM (Adult Targeted Case Management, ages 22 and up), that offer case management services and easier access to medical treatment and home healthy care. EPSDT and ATCM can be provided through either straight Medicaid, or the Salud! HMO. EPSDT Personal Care can also provide assistance through any home health agency. With these services you are required to have a Case Manager.
PCO: In addition, the Personal Care Option can provide assistance for adults with disabilities who have Medicaid.

The Center for Development and Disabilities’ Tip Sheets http://cdd.unm.edu/linc/TipSheets/ give information on various New Mexico Medicaid and state programs, their websites and how to contact someone to learn more. Click on the following links to download each Tip Sheet. These are VERY helpful!
